Ranvir Shah, cultural activist, philanthropist and businessman, has always had a keen interest in books, art, dance, music, interior decor and a sharp aesthetic perception. In 1998, he founded the Prakriti Foundation and has been a catalyst in changing the cultural scene in Chennai hosting events ranging from serious scholarly discourse to seminars, multimedia events, experimental and protest cinema, music festivals and contemporary dance performances. He is currently involved in the conceptualization and delivery of seven calendar events throughout the year. He has also curated various art exhibitions/festivals, the most recent being “Tranceport” – A solo exhibition by Pravin Kannanur at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre (Delhi) in February 2011. He is a freelance journalist and theatre/art critic for the Hindu and New Indian Express newspapers.
